Waterman’s body of work is characterized by her skill for reinvention. She loves weathered walls plastered with peeling paint and old posters - her goal is to make something beautiful out of what has deteriorated. The biggest challenge of collage as a medium, according to Waterman, is its lack of transparency and she considers replicating the effects of transparency afforded by paint and watercolors to be a victory. My tableaus explore the dissonance between old and new materials, intertwined in the most beautiful possible way to create dreamlike and melancholy
