CHAO WANG
Chao Wang, also known by his artistic alias Voeed, is a contemporary artist, educator, and researcher. His academic journey spans diverse disciplines through which he explores the boundaries of how we engage with technology and urban spaces. Wang’s current creative work merges photography, digital media, and site-specific installations in order to investigate the interplay between technology, political visual language, and urban mentalities. His art has been showcased internationally in cities such as London, Milan, Manchester, Toronto, and Hong Kong, earning critical acclaim for its innovative approach.
Wang’s current research explores the potential of 3D scanners as optical technologies and examines the role of the flâneur in contemporary urban life. Through this lens, he analyzes how urbanites navigate and reinterpret their visual environments, with a particular focus on London and Shenzhen.
Wang holds a graduate degree in Photography from the Royal College of Art and an Honours BA in Architecture and Visual Arts from the University of Toronto. Additionally, he completed exchange studies in Modern Art and Medieval Architecture at the University of Hong Kong and Oxford University. Currently, Wang is pursuing a PhD at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, Wang.
In 2019, Wang was awarded the prestigious John Ruskin Prize and received an honourable mention in the Olympia International Art Competition in Japan. His accolades also include nominations for the 2020 Lumen Prize and the 2023 MUSE Electronic Art Award.
