EILEEN LERNER

Eileen Lerner is an American artist based in New York city. Primarily a photographer, she alters her photographs to create ethereal surrealist pieces. Lerner seeks to deconstruct the dimension in which her original photographs were located, in her own words:

“They stand as images on their own, but as with other surrealists, I love the aesthetic freedom. The over-processing and defective development of light and dark offer an other-worldly vision”.

In her images, Lerner explores concepts such as movement and stillness - how the crash of water caught in a moment, for example, can evoke dual sensations. In addition to her fine art practice, Lerner prints her photographs on silk and other materials to create wearable art and accessories.
