Heidi McKenzie

Heidi McKenzie is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, whose practice engages issues of identity and belonging. Through her ceramics, she explores the deep relationship between the self, individuals  and cultures. McKenzie apprenticed in her father’s ancestral home at the foothills of the Himalayas with India’s foremost studio potter, Mini Singh. Her work has been exhibited in Denmark, Romania, Canada, USA, Australia, Hungary and Bali.

“My work is informed by the lived experiences of my mixed heritage. In the 1950s, my parents married when interracial marriages were illegal in several American states. I grew one of a handful of brown faces in a sea of white at the corners of “Canadianness.” Holding space and making place for people of color”
