ISABELLA COVERT

Painter Isabella Covert creates psychological portrait paintings that expose mundane moments of insecurity, desire, discomfort, and humanness. Her work centers around reproductive rights in America, commenting on the mental complexities women and people who can become pregnant experience due to the state of reproductive rights in America. In her own words, she aims to reference “the continuing history of the connotations between women’s emotional responses and hysteria, this work serves as a current zeitgeist.”

“In this era of ineffable circumstance, this work reflects the feeling of suppression and control as news of proposed reproductive health legislation is occurring daily in the overwhelm of the Information Age. These psychological portrait paintings discuss the multifaceted effects of limiting reproductive health access.

Covert was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and received a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2023. She is currently a MFA Candidate and Graduate Fellowship recipient at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions both virtually and in person in galleries across the US.
