Artwork Details
Mangroves are vital climate stabilisers, absorbing carbon and protecting coastlines from erosion. Their tangled roots shelter fish, birds, and countless microorganisms, sustaining the ecosystems that depend on them. Globally, mangrove forests have declined sharply due to human activity and climate change.
This work documents the life cycle of the mangroves lining Merimbula Lake, along which I walk each day. Photographic fragments of roots, fruit, flowers, shoots, and foliage merge with digitally fabricated elements, blending natural and artificial forms to highlight the impact of human activity on these fragile tidal forests and remind us of the urgent need to protect them.
