Manuela Lara

Mixed media artist Manuela Lara (b. 1989, Bogotá, Colombia) has dedicated her career to creating works that connect and reflect indigenous women's strength and unique realities. She merges diverse materials such as photography and objects that reflect the sitter's unique context with their life stories in order to create compositions that narrate their individual experiences.

Lara aspires to contribute to global awareness and through immersive research and intimate conversations, she is able to create work that encourages empathy and connections between subject and viewer. 

Manuela received her BA in Fine Arts from the Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia. She has been in residence in Peru, working with the Curahuasi town community and more recently, working closely with social leaders in different regions of Colombia, developing an ongoing art project VIVAS (Alive). Her work has been exhibited in different art spaces and galleries in Bogotá, Cali, Paris, and New York, and pieces are part of private collections in South America, the United States, Europe, and África.
