MARÍA JOSÉ SÁNCHEZ
María José Sánchez is a Colombian 3D artist with a major in visual art and an emphasis on painting. Sánchez studies and interprets the present time and consciousness as an artistic concept. Her work reflects on the personal layers that build her as an individual and reveal her inner self. With kindness, the artist stands before our eyes as an object of study to show us a complex exercise in self-knowledge, an exhaustive analysis of reality and history, and the characteristics that make up a person and how they perceive reality in their way.
“The present is not only an ephemeral and linear moment but a recollection of actions that conclude in what we know as the here and now.”
Sanchez' veil installation, 'A tráves de la memoria', and related drawings, are projects in which the process of developing each element was an important part of the work itself and was designed to decipher how each of us understands reality in a particular and unique way.
The artist invites us to think that as human beings, we have seven veils that make up our identity and determine how we understand reality. These are:
- What I am and what I think
- The body I inhabit
- Parenting
- The places I connect with
- The social environment
- The bloodline
- The historical context.
