MARINA CHISTY
Marina Chisty is a Russian-American artist based in New York City whose work is deeply influenced by her Russian heritage and its unique intersection of culture, identity, and societal change. Dual citizenship has been a formative experience and continues to shape her artistic vision and infuse her work with a profound sense of purpose and humanity.
With a background and Master's degree in economics, Marina brings an interdisciplinary approach to her artistic practice. In her work, she bridges disciplines such as science and art, and focuses on themes that transcend racial, socio-economic, and physical boundaries. Stylistically, Marina takes an integrative approach, seamlessly blending varied genres such as abstraction and symbolic imagery in order to explore the interconnected and fluid nature of time and identity.
Marina also draws inspiration from concepts in quantum physics and memory studies, and through her art, she investigates how time and identity are not static but are continually reshaped by our experiences and perceptions. For viewers, Marina considers her pieces to act as visual meditations on the transformative power of memory and the dynamic nature of selfhood.
Marina is currently pursuing an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she experiments with new techniques and ideas, further deepening her exploration of how art can illuminate the complexities of time, memory, and identity in an ever-changing world.
