MOLLY SCANNELL

“Realism is riddled with anxiety-induced pressure. I prefer collage”

Molly Scannell is an American artist and creative director who is interested in delving into the stories behind realistic images. She creates digital and analog collage pieces - transformed versions of reality centered on themes such as identity, nature, and raw emotion.

Scannell has a deep interest in tactile methods, and though some pieces originate from digital photographs, she describes herself as an analog artist; with tools such as scissors, glue, mechanical pencils, and graphite, she manipulates and distorts reality so that her audience may bring their own impressions.

Scannell’s work has been exhibited in the USA, France, and Prague, and she was awarded the Women's Essence Award for women in contemporary art co-current with the Venice Biennale.
