TIM SCHIFFER
Born and raised in Wyoming, Tim Schiffer discovered his passion for art at a young age under the nurturing influence of his mother. She introduced him to watercolors, which set him on a creative journey that would shape his artistic vision. Schiffer pursued his Bachelor of Arts in Art at Yale University and attended the Yale Summer School of Music and Art. His thirst for knowledge and artistic exploration led him to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts in painting. During his time at the university, Tim was a Lecturer in Art and Gallery Director at the College of Creative Studies.
In 1993, Tim Schiffer's career took a significant turn as he assumed the role of Curator at the Museum of Ventura County in Ventura, California. His keen eye for curation and innovative approach to art propelled him to Executive Director in 1999, a role he held for thirteen years. In 2012, Tim joined the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa, as its Executive Director, leaving an indelible mark on the institution until his retirement in 2019. Currently residing in Tucson, Arizona, Schiffer continues to explore his artistic vision through his paintings. His works seamlessly blend still lifes of objects with images from art history, creating compositions that invite contemplation and challenge the boundaries of reality. Tim's fascination with transparent watercolor and his meticulous approach to arrangement and composition allows him to create a harmonious interplay between the elements. With an unwavering belief in the expressive power of painting, Tim draws inspiration from art history and the ever-changing natural light, bridging the gaps between tradition and contemporary artistic exploration.
