VIOLENTA FLORES
Violenta Flores is an accomplished filmmaker, video artist, and professor whose work spans a wide range of creative and technical disciplines. As a sound designer, Flores contributed to several high-profile projects, including the Academy Award-nominated films Sense and Sensibility by Ang Lee and On the Ropes. They also worked on HBO’s America Undercover, earning an Emmy nomination for their contributions.
Their work as a filmmaker and video artist has been showcased at prestigious festivals worldwide, broadcast on platforms such as PBS, ABC, IFC, Showtime, and WE, and exhibited in museums and art fairs. Flores’s dedication to their craft has been recognized with numerous grants and awards.
Flores’s directing credits include the PBS-aired documentary 90 Miles, the Showtime feature The Story of the Red Rose, and the films Palingenesis and Soldiers Pay, the latter co-directed with David O. Russell. Additionally, they served as a juror for the Sundance Film Festival, further cementing their influence in the industry.
Their virtual reality credits include A History of Cuban Dance (premiered at Sundance 2016 with WithIn) and the feature documentary Buena Vista Social Club: Adiós. Flores has also presented performance works at venues such as the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and Miami Light Project’s Here and Now Festival.
A 2019 Venice Biennale Cinema College alum, Flores is currently producing the feature documentary, Remembering to Forget. This project reframes the narrative around dementia, focusing on what remains rather than what is lost, offering a compassionate and innovative perspective on the condition.
