Xi Zhang
Xi Zhang (b. 1984, Kaifeng, China) is an Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Utah. He began his formal training at the Beijing Institute of Art and Design before moving to the United States, earning a BFA from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 2008 and an MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2011. Lauded as Emerging Artist of the Year by The Denver Post for his distinctive vision, Zhang has built an internationally celebrated career. His work has been exhibited at the Song Zhuang Art Museum in Beijing, the Biennale of the Americas, and the White House. A recipient of the SeeMe Grand Prize in Painting (2020) and a finalist for the John Moores Painting Prize, his narrative-rich paintings have been featured by CNN, PBS, NPR, and Juxtapoz Magazine, representing a deeply mature engagement with structural figuration and psychological landscape. He is currently represented by Marc Straus.
