Adaptable Architecture

1/4" industrial wool felt, 1/8" designer wool felt, needle felted Croatian wool, Sashiko thread, graphite, grommets. Yvette Kaiser Smith constructs wall-based geometric abstractions that merge the visual languages of sculpture, embroidery, and painting. Utilizing layered industrial felt, the composition sets a vibrant red ground against a cream plane punctuated by a stitched vertical axis. The precise placement of a cutout square revealing the red beneath, alongside an applied grey felt circle, suggests a strict formal structure directed by the mathematical or architectural sequences central to her practice. Aligning with constructivist traditions, the work privileges the tactile reality of its materials, relying on pure geometry and stitched lines to organize spatial relationships.
