Valerie Hird constructs a tiered assemblage that draws on the tradition of Joseph Cornell’s shadow boxes, utilizing her background in set design to stage a complex architectural narrative. The central chamber recedes into deep perspective, lined with mid-century cinematic posters like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and bisected by physical wooden ladders. By framing these pop-cultural elements between Alice in Wonderland text and a subterranean council of mid-century political leaders, Hird forces a collision between fictional mythologies and historical reality, treating time as a fluid, interconnected nexus.
