Ancestors

Walking in a New York City protest, I find myself thinking of my immigrant ancestors and the lives they built here. Their struggles and aspirations surface in fragments—half-remembered, partially obscured—like images breaking through the present. In the crowd’s urgency, I feel the unfinished nature of their pursuit of belonging, echoed in today’s demands for justice. Past and present blur, suggesting that what was once fought for is neither settled nor secure.
