Ashley

Ashley is a reflection on resistance and our enduring connection to ancestral land. A larger-than-life Indigenous woman steps onto a small mound of ICE, reducing a symbol of fear and oppression to something temporary beneath her feet. Surrounded by lush grass, hibiscus, butterflies, a coquí, marigolds, and other symbols of Caribbean life, she embodies the resilience of a people whose roots cannot be severed. The painting speaks to the belief that systems built to erase or subjugate us will not endure, while our connection to our ancestors, culture, and homeland continues to thrive.
