Connections of Necessity

Connections of Necessity is a digital collage developed from Durán’s Cornell architecture thesis, which explored how new public space might be created within Hong Kong’s extreme vertical density. Combining hand drawing, charcoal, and digitally assembled imagery, the work imagines a continuous elevated terrain linking towers, infrastructure, routes, and destinations. The panoramic section treats the city less as a collection of isolated buildings than as a layered landscape—one in which architecture creates new possibilities for movement, occupation, refuge, and collective life.
