Deep Blue Planet

Titled *Deep Blue Planet*, the work merges the aggressive materiality of Abstract Expressionism with a rigorous architectural structure. Operating as a self-described "twenty-first-century primitive," Edward builds dense stratigraphies of oceanic cerulean, indigo, and striking gold pigment upon a sculpted board. Foregoing traditional brushes, the artist utilizes sticks and knives to physically excavate the wet surface, employing a severe sgraffito technique to carve a cross-hatched grid across the entire composition. This rhythmic, structural scoring slices through the thick layers of blue, tearing open the heavy impasto to expose bright, underlying flashes of yellow, vivid green, and a singular arc of crimson. Informed by his formal background in architectural design, this method imposes a rigid geometry onto chaotic color, fulfilling his intent to forge a symbolic tribal visual language through the forceful accumulation and subtraction of matter.
