Sense of Place – Artist Statement The Spirit of Place A place is never merely a geographical location. It is a sediment of memory, biological evolution, human traces, forgotten civilizations, instincts, and invisible relationships. The spirit of place emerges where matter and consciousness continuously rewrite one another. These works explore the landscape not as something seen from the outside, but as an inner ecosystem. Organic structures, fragmented anthropomorphic forms, animal archetypes, gestural marks, and geological textures coexist within the same visual field, suggesting that every place is an archive of life. Every line becomes a fossil of movement, every stain a trace of time, every figure a memory that survives beneath the visible surface. As a biologist and visual artist, I perceive place as a living network rather than a static environment. Nature and humanity are not separate realities but intertwined layers of a single evolutionary narrative. The paintings therefore do not depict landscapes; they reveal the invisible intelligence of landscapes—their accumulated memories, ecological consciousness, and existential resonance. The sense of place is ultimately the recognition that we do not inhabit places alone. Places inhabit us. They shape our perception, identity, and responsibility toward the living world, becoming silent witnesses to both our origins and our future.
