Arranged in a distinct cruciform composition, Amaru May’s hand-woven textile channels the vibrant geometric forms of traditional Latin American craft. Using cotton thread and linen, May constructs a dense central panel of interlocking diamond motifs that radiate outward into broader chevron patterns. The warm palette of deep purples, fiery oranges, and soft pinks anchors the work in the artisanal heritage of Mexico and Guatemala. Through this tactile process, May materializes the layered complexities of diasporic identity, using structural tension in the weave to examine the boundaries between unfamiliar landscapes and the search for belonging.
