Every Day is Resurrection

Painted during the loss of a close friend, Evelyn Gardiner structures disparate fragments of her life within borders of hand-painted musical notation. She processes this trauma by anchoring these painted vignettes to the shared, fundamental rhythms of living things. The resulting panels build a personal mythology, placing memorialized portraits of her late cat alongside an upper register where she depicts herself falling through a nocturnal sky. Visualizing a yearning to finally land safely, the piece resolves in the central image of a resting figure, seeking domestic life after feeling uprooted and without a home.
