Utilizing a tondo format, Patrick Webb continues his decades-long engagement with the Commedia dell'arte figure of Punchinello. The circular canvas compresses the space, tightening the focus on two figures locked in a tumbling embrace. Their bodies are rendered with loose, expressive brushwork in warm yellows and pale flesh tones against an earthy green ground. Drawing directly from the legacy of G.D. Tiepolo, Webb employs the masked clown as a tragi-comic Everyman. This dynamic physical entanglement creates a profound visual tension, situating the historical outsider within a poignant modern narrative of vulnerability.
