Soledad Burgaleta renders the deeply weathered face of an older man directly onto open pages of vintage newspaper, merging organic portraiture with discarded printed matter. Using mixed-media techniques, the artist allows the yellowed paper and dense columns of Spanish text to shape the rugged texture of the subject’s skin. The piece physicalizes Burgaleta’s focus on resilience and the life cycle of the environments we inhabit. Much like roots overtaking an abandoned structure, the heavy lines of the human face assert themselves over the rigid, built environment of the typography, offering a grounded meditation on endurance and the inevitable passage of time.
