Kinosaki

“Kinosaki” is named after the charming hot spring town in Japan. The painting captures a moment at dusk of walking along the canal, admiring the willow trees and nearly overlooking the silent and still grey heron below. The upper half of the composition is lively and layered with the branches of the willow tree drawing the eye downward. The lower half is muted and calm, giving breathing room for the heron. Deep hues balanced with soft light bring a weighted comfort to the scene, coated in a gloss varnish that emulates the saturated September air.
