Low Barometer

Translating an enduring interest in monochrome from photography to three dimensions, the artist presents a low relief sculpture carved directly from wood. Coated in uniform white paint, the undulating surface relies entirely on the fall of light and cast shadow to define its rolling waves, sloping shore, and layered clouds. A small house rests atop the highest hill, providing a strict architectural anchor against the organic topography. This reductive approach strips the landscape to its formal essence, proving the artist’s foundational belief that raw material can be shaped to capture natural rhythms without the need for varied pigment.
