4.7mm acrylic felt, 1/8" designer wool felt, 1/4" industrial wool felt, a variety of Sashiko threads, grommets. Yvette Kaiser Smith constructs hard-edge geometric abstractions that bridge minimalist formalism with textile traditions. In this vertical piece, precisely cut blocks of olive green and cream industrial felt interlock, driven by the formal logic of mathematical sequences or architectural grids. Kaiser Smith layers the thick material to create subtle topographical depth. Stitched linear elements—dashed, solid, and zigzagging threads—function as structural drawing across the textile surface. By translating strict numerical values into tactile geometric planes, she aligns rigorous conceptual theory with the tangible languages of sculpture and embroidery.
