Titled *Primal Music*, the work merges the structural discipline of architectural design with the raw materiality of Abstract Expressionism. Operating as a self-described "twenty-first-century primitive," the artist constructs a sprawling, unstable grid by thickly applying vibrant teals, deep indigos, and cadmium reds, only to fiercely excavate the surface with sticks and knives. This rigorous sgraffito technique physically scores the wet impasto, creating a staccato rhythm of vertical and horizontal striations that drag dark pigments across luminous underlayers. Rooted in the artist’s formal study of Symbolism, the composition pits a rigid, geometric scaffolding against destructive, instinctual mark-making. Ultimately, the heavily gouged canvas functions as a highly tactile artifact, recording the sheer physical force and rhythmic cadence of its own creation.
