Sacred Embrace

Sacred Embrace explores home as something we carry rather than inherit through geography alone. The two figures represent members of the Caribbean diaspora who have felt caught between worlds—seen as not American enough in the United States and not belonging enough in the homelands of their ancestors. In each other, they find the belonging they were denied, creating a home rooted in love, shared memory, and cultural inheritance. The surrounding Taíno zemís symbolize the enduring presence of their ancestors, reminding them that identity is not defined by borders but by the relationships that connect us to our people, our history, and the land from which we come. Together, they reclaim place as something remembered, embodied, and lovingly restored.
