Stairway

Stairway 36 x 9 inches, String Picture, 2026 I often combine images by varying the weight (thickness) of the string and the direction in which it is glued, allowing separate drawings to merge into a single composition. In Stairway, I combined a tree and a stairway. I chose these simple forms to explore how changes in string weight and direction alter perception. By systematically switching the weight and direction assigned to each image through all possible permutations, I examine which combinations strengthen, diminish, or transform the visibility of one image in relation to the other. The work functions as both image and experiment.
