Summer Rising

Michele Randall works in encaustic wax to examine how visual memories are retained or gradually lost over time. In this piece, translucent pools of deep burgundy and vivid chartreuse blend beneath a heavy, opaque swipe of white impasto. Drawing directly from her background as a printmaker, Randall incises thin, looping marks into the waxy surface, grounding the abstraction with delicate, repetitive lines. This combination of dense, layered color and sharp carving translates the familiar palette of her sylvan surroundings into a visceral record of what remains and what slowly dissolves.
