By painting this self-portrait, I seek to convey that we are not beings separate from the Earth, but an extension of it. Like the roots that trace across my face, reminding us that we are an integral part of this living ecosystem; like the earth itself, where flowers can bloom. This organic embrace reflects a deep connection with nature, which silently observes the wounds we inflict upon it.
Because in our pulse, the universe also resides. We are not alien to the river, nor to the wind, nor to each species that disappears leaving a void in our history. We are part of the cycle, of the whisper that crosses the world when no one speaks. Let us see ourselves this way again: not as owners, but as part of it. Not as the center, but as a passing instant within this breathing web. We are not separate from the world. We never were.
Through this artwork, I invite the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with the planet. Do we see ourselves as stewards or custodians of the Earth, or merely as temporary tenants? Do we feel that we are one with nature, or separate from it? By contemplating these questions, perhaps we can find ways to live with greater harmony and respect for the world that sustains us. Because to inhabit is not to possess—it is to belong.
