The Archetypal Complex
(First Study)
Before there were cities,
there were rooms within rooms,
and doors that opened
upon other doors.
Each generation laid its stones
upon the dreams of those before,
building upward
what it could not bear to leave behind.
A stairway rose toward heaven,
another descended into shadow.
Neither knew where it began,
nor where the other ended.
And everywhere, the arches,
holding the weight of passage,
guarding thresholds
no one remembered crossing.
Here the father built his house
upon the silence of his father.
Here the child inherited
a thousand rooms
without a single key.
Yet through the highest opening
the blue of heaven remained,
untouched by all
that had been built beneath it.
And somewhere in the labyrinth,
a door stood open,
not to another chamber,
nor another flight of stairs,
but to the possibility
of leaving something unfinished.
For the soul is not the house
it has inherited,
nor the walls it builds
to keep its ghosts within.
And what we call a complex
may be only the architecture
of a story
still waiting
to be lived.
