The Bleeding Heart Constellation

Sonia Redfern grounds the vastness of space in earthly flora, mapping a rigid geometric constellation onto the vibrant leaves and pendulous pink blooms of a bleeding heart plant. Informed by her background in astronomy, dark lines and starry nodes visually connect across the plant's organic canopy. The dense botanical cluster is painted against a highly textured, light-absorbing dark ground, nodding to her use of reclaimed materials like velvet to question conventional artistic value. By projecting a celestial chart directly onto familiar foliage, Redfern creates a tactile collision that anchors her ongoing inquiry into our shared existence on a small planet.
