The unsleeping forest

Drawing on Symbolist traditions, Shohee Kang visualizes a recurring dreamscape centered on a glowing, distant castle that represents an elusive inner sanctuary. The composition is sharply divided by a serene but bottomless waterline, creating an inverted abyss of dense, stylized foliage that separates two small foreground figures from their goal. Tethered to a solitary yellow lantern by a red cord, these figures confront the terrifying psychological depths masked by the water's surface. Kang observes this tension, capturing a profound dread where a solitary soul is caught adrift between the yearning for an unreachable dream and the shadowed voids that block the way.
