In *The Vortex*, the artist merges a formal background in architectural design with a fiercely physical approach to Abstract Expressionism. Treating the canvas as an excavated site, he builds dense, heavy layers of impasto before aggressively scoring the surface with sticks and knives. This self-described "primitive" methodology yields a deeply gouged, sgraffito texture that operates as a sculptural artifact rather than a flat plane. A turbulent, centralized energy drives the composition. Heavy masses of deep black and brilliant crimson clash at the core, violently fractured by slashing applications of bright yellow and cerulean blue. Jagged diagonal striations pull the pigment downward and inward, mirroring the mechanical rotation of the titular vortex.
