Tilting Tulips

This painting draws upon the tradition of the classical floral still life, yet isolates its subject with a distinctly modern clarity. Rendered in a muted palette of dusty rose and pale mauve, the tulips possess a smooth, almost sculptural solidity. This textural weight contrasts with the optical distortion of their green stems refracted through the deep blue, faceted glass vase. By stripping away extraneous background details, the artist directs focus onto the structural form of the heavy blooms and the subtle, matte gradients of light across their petals. The resulting image updates historical botanical studies through a highly controlled spatial arrangement.
