In *Tribal Magic*, the artist merges the structural discipline of architectural design with the aggressive materiality of Abstract Expressionism. Treating the canvas as an active excavation site, they build dense layers of deep teal, violet, and ochre, fractured by a searing vertical intrusion of cadmium red. Operating as a self-described "21st-century primitive," the artist furiously scores the wet pigment with sticks and knives to construct a sprawling, unstable grid. This rigorous sgraffito technique physically excavates the surface, carving deep striations that reveal bright underlayers of orange and black. The composition pits a rigid, geometric scaffolding against raw, destructive mark-making. By dragging and scraping through the heavy impasto, the canvas functions as a highly tactile artifact that permanently records the physical force of its own construction.
