Walk it through

In his recent turn toward experimental analog photography, Laurent Muschel transfigures a lone figure into an anonymous silhouette against a cascade of heavy film grain. The extreme texture and high-contrast rendering strip the landscape of documentary detail, aligning the work with the are-bure-boke (grainy, blurry, out-of-focus) aesthetic of the postwar Japanese Provoke movement. The resulting image obscures the boundary between physical environments and internal psychological terrains. This picture goes in pair with the next one as a diptych.
